CHURCH HISTORY written by Lisa Cline Bellah The Red Springs Baptist Church was organized July 1911. The Charter members were: Mr. & Mrs. J.W. Kennedy

  • Charlie Brown.
    The first Pastor was a Brother Blalock.
    The second Pastor was a Bro. West, and then in 1924-1925, a Brother Frances Wells was Pastor, and then Brother J.C. Harrell.
    In January 1934, Brother Sam Burgin was called as Pastor and preached until October 1934. At this same time, a Brother Liles preached in the absence of Brother Burgin.
    In October, 1934, the church called Brother Baird as Pastor and he preached through December 1935.
    In December 1935, the church called Brother Stagner as Pastor and the meeting days were on the 4th Sunday and the Saturday night before the 4th Sunday. Brother Stanger was Pastor through February, 1937

    In 1937, the church was then moved to the present location.
    On March 14, 1937, Brother J.B. Blackwell was elected as Pastor and served through August, 1939.

    On August 26, 1939, Brother Clyborn was elected as Pastor and served for several years and then Brother Alred served as Pastor.

    Brother E.M Bain was then Pastor.
    In October 1947, Brother W.H. Hodges served as Pastor and services were on the 2nd and 4th Sundays.

    Brother Hodges served through October 1949. At this time the church called Brother G.T. Taylor and he served through September 1950.

    On September 23, 1950 Brother Jim Perret was called as Pastor and served through September 1954.

    The church then had men to come in view of calls and on December 12, 1954, Brother C.W. Brewer accepted the call as Pastor.

    In January, 1955, the church voted to start a Building Fund. Brother Brewer remained as Pastor until August 26, 1956.

    From September 1956 until February 1957, Brother L.A. King, a missionary from Wood County, worked with the church.
    On February 3, 1957, the church affiliated with the Wood County Association.

    On February 17, 1957, Brother O.E. Bright accepted the call as Pastor.
    On May 5, 1957, the church began to discuss remodeling the old building or building a new one. And on August 4, 1957, the church voted to build a new building. Brother O.E. Bright remained as Pastor until 1965.

    Brother Fred Morrow became Pastor October 1965, and remained pastor until he resigned August 18, 1974.

    Brother Bill Hunter accepted the church September 8, 1974 and the church voted to dismiss Brother Hunter on August 10, 1975.

    Brother Ted Johnson accepted the pastorate of the church October 19, 1975 and resigned the church September 25, 1977.

    Brother Ben Alford was elected Interim Pastor October 16, 1977 and resigned February 22, 1978.

    Brother R. W. Blackmon accepted the church March 15, 1978 and resigned August 11, 1982.

    Brother Ernie Howard was elected our Pastor September 8, 1982 and his first sermon as our Pastor was September 15, 1982.
